Polycam Scanning Guide for Basketball Players' Faces

Objective

Create high-quality facial scans of basketball players using Polycam or alternative imaging methods for video game integration. Uniforms are not required as the focus is on capturing facial details.

Equipment Needed

  • LiDAR-enabled iOS device (iPhone 11 or above) or high-quality Android camera for alternative imaging.

Preparation

  • Players do not need to be in their basketball uniforms as the focus is on the face.
  • Choose a well-lit area with a neutral, non-distracting background for best results.

Scanning Process

Using LiDAR Mode (If Available)

  1. Open Polycam App: Launch Polycam on your LiDAR-enabled iOS device.
  2. Select LiDAR Mode: Choose the LiDAR scanning option.
  • Scan the Player’s Face:Instruct the player to adopt a natural, front-facing pose.
  • Capture the face from different angles, ensuring detailed coverage.

Alternative Imaging Method

If LiDAR is not available or for individual players:

  • Take Three Specific Images Using a Phone Camera:Front Facing: Capture the player's face from the front.
  • Left Side: Have the player turn to their left for a side profile of the face.
  • Right Side: Have the player turn to their right for another side profile of the face.
  1. Distance: The photographer or the player (if taking a selfie) should be no more than 3 feet away.
  2. Image Quality: Use a high-quality phone camera (iPhone 11 or above, or a high-quality Android camera) to ensure clarity.

Submission Process

  • Compile Player Information:Include the player's name, weight, jersey number, presence of tattoos, age, position, and a short bio.
  • Send to Team Owners:Players or photographers email the images along with the player information to their team owners.
  • Team Owners Forward to Developers:Team owners then forward this information to mobilegame@abagalelunlimited.com for game development.

Integration into Game Development

  • The game development team will use the provided facial scans and player information.
  • This data will assist in creating accurate and realistic player models for the game.

Tips for Best Results

  • Ensure good lighting to avoid shadows and inconsistencies.
  • For self-taken images, use a stable surface or selfie stick to maintain steadiness.
